Hiring a paver patio contractor is not the same as buying pallets of brick and hoping for the best. On Lake of the Ozarks lots, the work usually includes:
- Site check for grade, drainage, and underground utilities
- Excavation and a compacted aggregate base sized for our clay and rock
- Edge restraint so the field does not creep downhill
- Paver layout (herringbone, running bond, or a custom border)
- Joint sand and final compaction
- Tie-ins to steps, seat walls, walkways, or a fire pit when you want the whole outdoor room

Patios That Have to Live on a Slope
Plenty of Lake lots are not flat, and that is fine. It does not mean every patio article on this site has to be a hillside manifesto.
On a grade we typically:
- Cut and fill to a usable pad, or step the patio into two levels
- Pitch the surface so stormwater leaves the house, not the other way around
- Add a seat wall or short retaining edge when the drop needs holding
- Connect with paver or stone steps instead of a goat path to the dock

How much does a paver patio cost at Lake of the Ozarks?
It depends on size, material, access, and how much grade work the lot needs. National ballparks do not travel well to a rocky lakeside lot. We price after we see the site. For broader budget context, see our landscaping cost guide.
Do pavers hold up to Missouri winters?
Yes — if the base is deep enough, drained, and compacted. The pavers are rarely the failure. The dirt under them is.
Can you match an existing walkway or wall?
Usually. Bring a photo or a loose paver if you have one. Mixed brands are common on older Lake homes.
How long before we can use it?
Most patios are walkable the same day we finish joint sand. Heavy grills and outdoor kitchens wait until we say the base has settled as planned.
Do I need a permit?
Simple at-grade patios often do not. Walls, large structures, and some HOA or lakefront rules do. We flag that during design.
